Iakhov Chernikhov (1889-1951)
I stumbled onto this great site over the weekend. It is the Iakov Chernikhov International Foundation. The foundation was named after Russian Architect and Graphic Designer, Iakov/Chernikhov. His story is somewhat typical, but his work was anything but. The site has some great images from his era and includes a lot of his sketches, which are exceptional and fun to look at.
I often forget to look beyond the typical American and European designers for inspiration, yet here is a guy who obviously had great vision and talent. All covered over by the cold war or something or other.
